Beginning July 1, Jennifer Wolch will be the new dean at the University of California, Berkeley's College of Environmental Design, leaving her position as professor of geography and urban planning at the University of Southern California. She will be the college's ninth dean. Her work in urban planning has focused on how to deliver services to the poor and homeless of Los Angeles, and she works on sustainability issues such as urban sprawl. She is also the founding director of USC's Center for Sustainable Cities.  Read more: |

St. Louis-based KAI Design & Build has been selected for a Regional Excellence Award from <i>St. Louis Construction News and Real Estate</i> for its design for the city's new Gateway Transportation Center Amtrak, Greyhound, and light rail station. KAI Texas has three recent new hires. Andrew Herrell has been hired as a project architect in KAI's Education Studio, working on the DISD Wilmer-Hutchins K-5 Elementary School and the City of Dallas Highland Hills Branch Library. Ronald Rutherford Jr. has been brought on as a contract administrator and is currently working on the firm's expansion of the green line of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit. New York-based Poulin + Morris has named AJ Mapes as an Associate of the firm and Laura Gralnick as a Senior Designer. Mapes has been with the firm since 2005; Gralnick since 2008. Vic Thompson recently celebrated his 40th anniversary with the Tulsa office of PSA-Dewberry, a division of Dewberry. Having worked on projects in the fields of education, government, and heathcare, Thompson received an Honor Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation for his 20-story addition to Tulsa's Mid-Continent Tower, completed in 1984. He has also designed many other Tulsa buildings, including the new Booker T. Washington High School and the MTTA Denver Avenue Station.  Read more: |

The Ford Motor Co. has installed Onset Computer's web-based weather stations on the green rooftop of its Dearborn Truck Plant in Dearborn, Mich. The HOBO U30 stations installed on the 10.4-acre green roof monitor moisture levels and weather conditions and transmit the information to Ford engineers. Ford's energy savings have earned the company the EPA's Green Star Award for the fourth consecutive year.  Read more: |
